Has anyone ever searched for fairy stones. Here in Virginia especially around Fairystone Park there are stores and rock collectors along the highway selling fairy stones.
The story behind these stones are interesting. It is said at the time when Jesus was crucified there was a colony of Angels living here near where Fairystone Park is today. They say the fairy stones are the tears of Angels when they heard the news of the crucifying of Jesus Christ.
Has anyone ever collected these stones. I have found several myself but none of the larger ones which they say you can crack open and the inside is full of fairy stones.
Google fairy stones. I have one laying in my bathroom beside the sink right now. I first thought it was Civil War marbles until an old timer revealed this secret to me. Come to Virginia and enjoy. Thanks.

;D Am collecting 'em, now. Wife & I went down to FSSF, and she found three & I found one (RAW ones). Went to Martinville, Va. and bought one "polished" Fairy Stone (got OTHERS around the house, SOMEWHERE). Came back home via Blue Ridge Parkway, Meadows of Dan had WONDERFUL "candy factory" & the wife just HAD to have her CHOCOLATE... HA! Very nice "over-niter" and will go there again, in 2014.

I live there, I can find them on my property, this is the reason when I bought my home, I bought where I did, I consider it Gods country, as a child I searched for them, & literally had tens of thousands but parents scattered them in yard, & flower beds where I grew up, but let me continue to collect. I have buckets & bags full still, & I still go hunting them a couple times a year, & planning to go this week while I am on vacation, its only a couple miles to a great spot, then maybe a mile+ hike.
I have a few huge rocks, maybe 100+ lbs full of them, I had a friend that sold an old log cabin that all the rocks the chimney was built with were full of them.
so go enjoy, have fun, & they come in many sizes & shapes, I have seen some close to 6" my largest is maybe 4" the guy that found that one was hunting with me that day, & I didnt find anything bigget than maybe 1 1/2" but I will say most are 3/4" or so, & if you want to go right on henry county, patrick county line, behind Haynes 57, its changed names to fairystone pitstop, & go behind & look in the old creekbed & follow it up mountain, after any decent major storm they will good hunting there, & easy for amatuers to find. also any freshly fallen trees, look around root mass & the hole it created,, but others may have had same idea, if old fall its been picked over.
also if you hike way up there is a forestry service road, & I have had luck in the past after the road, also the mountain side farther from the building, that follows the road, just hike & search, & criss cross. I will say I have seen a few larger crosses come from that side mountain. but pickings are not as good, just prize may be better.
Remember no digging tools! only by hand, however I have been known to use my pocket knife to help dislodge a rock if I knew it was fairystones, but no digging to explore.
GOOD LUCK, & HAPPY HUNTING! in whats basically my backyard
