Hey Rebel, Just finished reading " Shadow of the Sentinel" by Warren Getler and Bob Brewer. Very good book if you haven't read it. I know why JJ didn't have much money after all those robberies now, he was putting it all in the KGC banks to finance the next war! The authors actually managed to find some of it even though the maps were as hard to understand as the Beale papers. They really had some strange ways of marking the location of a vault didn't they?

Yo! ;D Rebel here: Yep, kydave... I have the "hardback" that you have, AND the "soft cover" called REBEL GOLD... SAME book. The "Bible Tree" is KEY in that Book; we have a SIMILAR tree here in Bedford County, which I took pictures of. I gave copies of it to beale, and Peter Viemeister (who wrote several books on the Beale treasure). I showed beale the tree; he looked around the area and apparently liked what he saw... I wanted to show him more, but we never got around to it. In terms of Jesse, Frank, et al... I think there is the "connection" you see... AND, as I wrote in PREVIOUS "threads", the James boys had KIN in Stewartsville, Va. in the south-western part of Bedford County near Roanoke, Va. (then KA BIG LICK); it seems that Bro. Frank James came EAST to Virginia after his brother Jesse was killed, and MAYBE lived in UPPER GOOSE CREEK VALLEY as "Buck" Wright. Just review PREVIOUS "posts" that are documentations (books) by DAR "Bedford Villages; Lost & Found". The maps you mentioned are on the internet, and ARE hard to read (& understand... !?!).

How did they expect anyone to find those metal markers, like guns etc. when there were no metal detectors back then? Seems i read about a compass needle will move when you pass over something metal, don't really believe that! But i have never tried it either!

Yo! ;D Ahhhh... GOOD stuff... that "High-Test"... ANYWAY... as you know BOTH Bob Brewer & Warren Getler wrote that book, and they have now gone separate ways, and "HillBilly" Bob is STILL semi-treasure hunting, in that he is losing his eye-sights (going blind, from what I have read... reminds me of Jonathan Swift or John Milton of PARADISE LOST/FOUND/REGAINED "book"), and semi-retired with his wife, Linda... living in Florida, I think. ANYWAY... "Hillbilly Bob" has a BLOGSPOT ("old"), and new. the "old" is "hillbillybobtreasure.blogspot.com" and a new one... don't know THAT "addy". I can say that until I read that book, I didn't even know about Knights of the Goldern Circle... the Beale Treasure... the J.S. Silver Mines... wasn't even into Treasure Hunting; all this back in 2005, I think. I just LOVE researching this stuff on the computer now: and was FORTUNATE to be living in Bedford County 'til last year... NOW in Lynchburg, Va. where I can continue the research at Jones Memorial Library. beale is the FIRST & ONLY treasure hunter I have ever known, and we had/have fun, when we get together... (SUNNY out...).

Yo! ;D You must have "posted" when I did... HA!!! The SPANISH NEEDLE is what you are "talking" about... sorta like a compass, and the "needle" is made of a metal that "dips" down towards iron, etc. in a "magnetic" sort of way... THAT is why all kinds of old metal OR... other "clues" to treasure nearby... could be "marks" on the trees... could be rock "carvings"... could be "Hoot Owl/Thong Trees. I remember one guy finding about SIX rifle barrels with bayonets on 'em... got so excited, he got 'em up, and left. They MAY have been "metal clues" to dig UNDER 'em to get CSA $$$$$... HA! I did not know about stuff like that, then in @ 1977. Do engine research on SPANISH NEEDLES in treasure hunting... NOT... clothes mending... LOL HA! HA! HA! ;D

Yeah forgot about the "needles", have never seen them but have used the "Dowsing Rods" in a few contest where silver rounds were planted in the woods for a pay to enter metal detector and Dowsing hunt. That's where i first met the Authors Michael Paul Henson and W.C. Jameson, both treasre hunters. Anyway my experience with the rods is they don't work a 100% all the time and i suspect the needles don't either which would be a real problem at a KGC site!

Yo! ;D Well... there is a different in the two... Dowsing Rods have ALWAYS worked for me... it is a matter of "meditating", and getting in "the mood". Spanish Dip Needles are different in that they are "equipment" that does not need "human in-put", only "magnetic interaction" with iron... SDN's have to be used a certain distance from the ground; the reaction of the needle indicate that iron "something" is "pulling it (SDN) down. Then you dig...

If the rods ALWAYS work for you then ou should spend a lot more time in the field instead of the library! Ha! Diggin up loot! I used the rods at a JJ rumored hide out once and did dig up an old knife but nothin else. Down at Samuels Ky. next to a log house is a big depression in the ground that you can ride a horse off in, build a fire and camp and can't be seen from eye level. JJ was in tight with the local Sheriff during that time. They were using code in their letters but i haven't been able to find any letters showing what type it was.

kydave,
The depression could be from a meteorite strike. That would be a swell place to use a deep seeking detector. About Jesse James, I don't believe all of those stories by Jesse James III about Jesse James hiding away huge amounts of treasures in hundreds of locations. These in my mind is wild goose chases that will take one's entire life to check out and never find anything?
I would check out small depressions around JJ's hideouts. He didn't accumulate much wealth from his robberies. Good luck to you though maybe you will find a large one on JJ's trail but I don't believe he hid that much treasure.

Yo! ;D ZING!!! Yep, kydave... IF Jesse, like his brother Frank, was a FreeMason... and the sheriff, you alluded to was a FreeMason... THAT is why Jesse was "good" with the sheriff; the Cypher Code they PROBABLY used was "PigPen" Mason Cyphers found in the 1866 ritual book(s) of the York Rite, with focus on the Royal Arch Degree. After reading the "communication", it was supposed to be BURNED... why you can not find anything, today. (SUNNY out...).
