;D Well... spent TWO hours at JML, today; last time I went there, I asked for info on Robert MORRISS, & the guy looked and said there was NO info on Robert MORRISS. TODAY, I asked for info on Robert MORRIS, Mayor of L'burg, Va. - 1813, and the lady found a FOLDER on Robert MORRISS! HA! beale, will make a copy & mail it to U. I am ALSO...reading: LYNCHBURG: "THE MOST INTERESTING SPOT" by Dorothy & Clifton Potter, Jr., LYNCHBURG, VIRGINIA: THE FIRST TWO HUNDRED YEARS, 1786 - 1968 by J.M. Elson, LYNCHBURG IN THE CIVIL WAR by G. Morris & S. Foutz, & reviewed TWO books in JML... LYNCHBURG & ITS PEOPLE by W. Ashbury Christian, & SKETCHES & RECOLLECTIONS OF L'BURG by Louise A. Blunt; will share what I find, SOON. beale, will send copy of OLD L'BURG, VA (map) & copy of "index" of TAVERNS & HOTELS from the book by W. Ashbury Christian, which is in JML ( I have to read it THERE...). BRIEFLY, VERY confusing info. PLUS... the "EAP story" ROBERT MORRISS, WILLIAM GALT, JOHN ALLAN, AND THE $750,000 INHERITANCE is in there... HA!

Rebel,
Sounds good. I have old maps of Lynchburg City though. If you research the Brown Family be sure to look for connections to Sarah Morriss their aunt. One of the Brown daughters married John Otey can't remember his middle initial.
Also a Brown married the daughter of the owner of the Franklin Hotel that turned ownership over to Robert Morriss. Dr. Brown's son-in-law and daughter moved to St. Louis before 1822. Also the Kennerly duaghters were living in St. Louis before 1822, they worked in a merchantile store across from Governor Clark's Mansion. I believe the Chauteau were the owners. It's in my book. There is a connection between the Kennerly's and the Browns. Talk to you later. When I need warm weather wouldn't you know it all we get is cold. Someday.

I have already read them and found some new information. Still it is right puzzling that there is not more information on this man, Robert Morriss. All quotations about him say he was an honest and upstanding man therefore I can rule out posts by tomm saying he was a pirate and ran a house of theifs. I simply do not believe that. I believe he was quite honest and I believe he came from a wealthy Maryland Family. As I said within three years of coming to Lynchburg he spent over $50,000. for property. In those days $50,000 was at least 5 Million Dollars maybe more. We will see how this research pans out? As for his wife, I already have her genealogy and knew she was born in 1786 but as you found out at James Madison University, there is no marriage record in Loudoun County. Still does not mean they did not get married because as many of you know our Capitol was ransacked and records destroyed in the surrouding areas including Loudoun County during the War of 1812. I still believe that what information we seek can and will be found in Lynchburg and most likely by you rebel. Have a great day. Got to get my taxes finished today. Will go Beale Searching tomorrow. Thanks.

I thank you Rebel for the input on the JP.
Took a hiatus yesterday away from Beale and went on a "Ride About" for lack of a better descriptive term. Hit "Greasy Corners Arkansas" and passed through "Cooter Missouri" Took "DD" road and wound up on "U" road" found site "9" and a bunch of other unusual out of the way places. Has nothing to do with Beale traveled about 350 miles burning diesel at $3.29 a gallon but found a place that served great Home Cooked Catfish, "yummy" with hush puppies the size of golf balls. Ate til I almost popped. Man at that place in that town (about 255 population) made an astute observation, he said he knew everyone in town and he had never seen me before so I must be a visitor to his town. Hum mm! He also said I talked like a Yankee...real interesting since I was born in the south, raised in the south and live in the south....so as not to embarrass him I said yep, I'm from New Hampshire..although I never been that far north...He asked me where New Hampshire was at so I told him it was a little bit north of Chicago, and he said New Hampshire, Illinois he had been watching that on TV lately where they were doing the early voting.....I paid for my food and got out of there before he got into politics and I embarrassed myself by telling him I voted for Tody Fields. All in All, it was an interesting "Ride About", went to places I have never been and will probably never go again, met some interesting people I could probably write a story about. Well anyhow Rebel Thanks for the name of the JP all you Guys and Gals have a great Super bowl Sunday.....("I'm watching reruns of Star Trek Enterprise") catch the results on Fox at 9:00.
later
