Going to Wakefield near Smiley Ky. where Quantrill was captured wounded and later died to look for his gold! A small amount was found on Ashes Creek nearby a few years ago, 12 coins i believe. Probably more around there somewhere but will be hard to find, said to be at least $5000 hidden somewhere near the Wakefield Farm. Lots of "luck " will be needed for this one!

Guess i didn't raise any eyebrows? Anybody got any useful info on the area? Albert? Around the Wakefield Farm? I know Quantrill offered $5000 in gold to let him go before he was shot trying to escape and he didn't have it on him so it must be buried nearby!

Kydave, I know this is about a month and one half late but I have a little information on the area. If you will go to rootsweb.com you will find some on the Wakefield Farm near Smiley, Kentucky. I see where a John B. Hamilton now owns the Old Wakefield Farm. Maybe you should start there. $5000 in gold would be worth a chunk today, about $8 million or more. Good luck.

Thanks Albert, Haven't gone over there yet anyway. Been waiting on a friend that has "permission" to get on the property to get time to take me and that knows the area. Hopefully in a week or two, just gonna have to deal with the heat and bugs and go when i get a chance rain or shine!

Thanks for the info Reb, after doing a little research i believe i've narrowed the area to search a little. One particular place sounds like a very likely spot to bury some loot. Man it's close to 100 in the shade here today!

Good Luck, kydave. Don't look too hard for cache-----------9 of 10 times the treasure will be right where you are looking in plain view. Others will walk right on by.

SAME OLD STORY!!! Now the guy that was going to get me in at Wakefield doesn't think he can get permission! What isl wrong with people? He lead me to believe he already had permission! Guess i'll have to knock on the man's door myself one day, all he can say is "no". 50/50 it's a "wild goose chase' anyway! Leaving for the Treasure Coast in a couple of weeks, hope nothing spoils that! Should have been there when 'Irene" came thru!

Kydave, When you contact the landowner, only tell him that you are a Civil War buff and would like to search the property for relics. If the landowner already knows of the suspected cache, then tell him if you get lucky and find anything valuable you and he will split 50/50. If you can get this in writing on a piece of paper dated and signed by a witness or two that would be even better. Good luck. Albert
