Have you tried the search engines such as google to see if they have any surveys of guest or visitors? What is a "Herkimer Diamond"? Is it a real diamond or some other crystal substance? I need to research more on natural treasures. I wish you luck.
I did a quick search and the Herkimer Diamonds are really quartz crystals, not a real diamond and they don't even use them for jewelry. Unless you like pretty stones, I hope you go just for the enjoyment of getting out.

Thanks for the response. Yes, Herkimer diamonds are double ended crystals and they can be beautifully brilliant and clear. Although not real diamonds, they are used for jewelry and highly sought after in the "mystic" crowd. Some people believe they have "powers" but I think a weekend of cracking rocks in upstate NY looking for crystals would be fun. We do that in Arizona, Wisconsin, Michigan and Ontario looking for all manner of treasure. When we get the rocks home I cut them, polish them, cab them, make jewelry for my wife and we also have piles of them all over our 3 acres of flower gardens and watercourses. I even make my own bricks with slabs in them for use on the patio. Never too many rocks! Have a great day.

I have a big one from ace of diamond mines in my web store: www.shopnow.fernfossils.comI actually just moved to the Herkimer area, and will be doing some digging at diamond acres, since they are $2 to dig, and the rest of the big boys are $10 to dig, and basically tourist traps.

let's see if I can get this pic to work. The larger ones aren't as clear, but are still awesome.

I live about 1/2 hour away from Herkimer county.....most of the commercial mines out there will be hard to find anything really decent, and they can be a bit expensive. I know of a landowner in the town of Mohawk, NY that will let people mine on his property, just leave a small donation in the box he has set up on a table near the entrance surrounded by some of his finds. Most of what you will find there are not as clear as what can be found in other places, but the crystals are enormous compared to what's left at the commercial mines. I will have to find where I have his info on directions, etc., and post it when I find it.
