Can anybody identify this for me? I have no idea what kind it is. I saw it at a garage sale and had to pick it up. (it's heavy). approximately 6 lbs. though it feels like more. I'm just so curious as to what kind of rock/quartz it is. Attachments:

I believe it's a septarian nodule. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ConcretionThe crystals on the inside are probably calcite and interestingly you might find that it's fluorescent under a shortwave (black light) fluorescent light source too. For more info, check out Mindat.org The forums there may shed some more light on it's origin and ID. Check out the Identity Help section ( www.mindat.org/msgboard-11.html ) where you can leave a message and post a pic to help with your samples ID. I hope that helps.
