Here are some words that may be relevant don't know?/ Benjamin Arthur, Pinckneyville, Ferry, Broad River, Lockhart, upstream, downstream, and of course Jefferson Davis, treasure and other words I can not think of? ? Beale - I am a complete novice at this this, so pardon me for jumping in with stuff I'm sure you already know, but: Pinckneyville (now Pickney) is a former town (still a few ruins) and Lockhart is a town in Union County, SC, both on the Broad River. There used to be a ferry at Smith's Ford, about 5-10 miles upstream from Pinckney in Cherokee County, SC. Some say Jefferson Davis crossed the Broad River at Smith's Ford, but like I said, I'm a novice so I assume this is old hat to you guys.

Harry,
You are correct in part but not whole. Jefferson Davis crossed the ferry or pontoon bridge at Pinckneyville as did Micajah Clark when he transported the so called remaining treasure to Abbeville, South Carolina. This is an on going search for me. I believe it has come to an end because I found out today the CIA has moved in to Pinckneyville and they have been excavating according to aerial photos. The CSA Fort Knox is most likely being plundered by the USA.
General Palmer of the Yankee Army said his men captured some of the rear guard of Jefferson Davis at Smith's Ford. Davis himself was crossing further south----it was his calvary flanking him to the north to keep out any surprise attack from Palmer and his men. As Palmer was taking the direct route through Spartansburg to get to Andersen and ahead of Davis to cut him off as he crossed the Savannah River------which he did quite effectively.
As far as I know without giving too much away. Davis when he left York divided the treasure into three wagon trains, one crossed at Pinckneyville, one crossed at Smith's Ford and a third crossed at Cherokee Falls. I have searched two of these three locations. But I believe all of the treasure was eventually cancelled at Pinckneyville and now I believe we will never know since our government is recovering it. Sorry.

Beale -
That’s very interesting info. I didn’t know about the three crossings, but I’m sure you’re right. If I have time, I think I’ll drive over to Picnkneyville tomorrow and see what the CIA guys have to say about their activities.
BTW, I’m not a TH (oh sure, I guess everyone says that), but I just started Googling some things a few days ago and found it interesting.

Worst winter I can remember rebel except for the winter of 1984 ----70 to 75 below wind chill that winter. I don't ever want to see another like that one. This one has been bad for contineous cold and lots of snow. I have really had enough-----want to get out and treasure hunt with a recovery durn it all.
harry, Have you gotten over to ask the CIA what the H--- they are doing in Pinckneyville yet. I heard they were manufacturing something don't know and don't care----------I only wish they had chosen somewhere else. I haven't gotten back down there in 9 or 10 years and they have to move in right where I wanted to search. double drat. may have to come up your way rebel and try to find some of the CSA KGC or BEALE some kind of treasure? See you soon. Albert

Beale -
No I haven't made it there yet. I'll probably go Saturday if the weather is okay. Some are predicting more snow, but surely that won't happen.
EDIT: On second thought, it will probably be Sunday. My wife is using my Tahoe on Saturday. I doubt I'll need it, but I have no idea what the roads (if any) will be like.
I'll let you know as soon as I make it. Work has been an aggravating interference this week.

Agree with you on work. The CIA are on the right fork before you get to the Pinckneyville monument down near the river. I don't think they will let you get close enough to find out anything and I surely don't think they will tell you anything? But, good luck anyway.

What does the monument look like? I've never been there before and don't know what to expect.
I don't expect the CIA to tell me anything either. I just think it might be fun to pester them a bit. I won't push it too far though.

The monument is made of granite or marble about like a tombstone, is about four feet wide and five feet tall. It's inscription reads: SITE OF PINCKNEYVILLE COURT HOUSE 1791 ERECTED BY UNION COUNTY 1936 The monument will be on your left near the end of the drivable road ---- that is if the road has not closed in the past 10 years. PS The CIA Agents are wearing hunting coveralls and have sub-machine guns-----so be very careful. Albert Rebel, I am going to send you a PM, I need to know something and you are the only person I know that might know the answer.

Keep the info coming, we're the last of the "real treasure hunters" Thanks for posting! Make fun out of it and have a good time posting with us! No Post is a bad Post! Thanks. I appreciate that. Fortunately Pinckneyville is fairly close to me, and everything I read here intrigues me a bit more. Today I talked with an old friend of mine who is an official with Union County, and he was not aware of any recent activity (CIA or otherwise) at Pinckneyville. On the other hand, he hasn't worked for Union very long and is new to the area. Regardless, I'll see tomorrow. I've decided to go even though I can't take my Tahoe. I can always go back on Sunday in the Tahoe, if need be, and time permits. I appreciate the info and encouragement from this website. I'm getting a bit excited about it, even though I certainly don't expect to find anything of value. I doubt anyone will believe me, but I am not a treasure hunter, I have no MD, and I would have no clue as to where to search. I'm just interested in the historical aspect, although admittedly treasure would be nice. Plus, if the CIA is really there, that would be VERY interesting. Again, I won't push anything too far, but I'm never hesitant about asking polite but perhaps intrusive questions. Thanks again. - Harry

kydave maybe you can help--------I need to know what the Mason's hand sign is? If you or any Mason is able to reveal that without any reprisals from membership. I just wanted to know what the Mason hand sign was? I know what the KGC hand sign is and I was wondering if they were the same thing? Albert
