Yep i've read so much of that stuff over the years, the one that stuck with me the most i think was between Jefferson and Patterson, without looking it up, was where you used a "name and address" for the "key". Now that one made the little light come on! Now if i was out West and sent you a letter cipher and all you had to do was use your own name and or address is that "foolproof" and easy as "fallin off a log" or what? If somebody else got the letter the "key " would be right in front of them and they would never see it! Never have to fool with a long drawn out secret list of words to be sent 10 years later that probably might not even show up! But if i did have a key delivered it would simply say, i'm not coming back use your name and address to do what i asked of you. Anybody got Morriss's address? I believe thats a form of a Nomenclator, very popular back then. Nuff said!

A month or so ago I posted that I was going to Pinckneyville and report whatever I saw. I'm sure your guys thought I was some kind of hit & run artist, but lately my like has been a perfect example of the old maxim "Life is the stuff that happens while you're making other plans."
Anyway, I finally made it over to Pinckneyville yesterday. Unfortunately there's not much to report. There was a steel gate across the road and "No Trespassing" signs everywhere. The signs were issued in the name of a hunt club.
What irritated the heck out of me is that the road is shown as a State road on every map I've seen, and no one should have the right to block the public's use of it. I think the Pinckneyville site itself (only about 1.5 acres) is owned by the Union County Historical Society, so I'm going to call them Monday. If I don't get a satisfactory answer, I'll call DOT. Unless that road has been officially abandoned by DOT with proper documents filed with the Register of Deeds, I'm going to raise caine until I get in there come hell or high water.
One of the problems with Union County is their penchant for lawlessness. A few months ago, about 8-10 public officials (including the Sheriff) were sentenced to prison terms.
But to continue the story, after encountering the blockade, I drove down to Lockhart, and tried to make my way back up the Broad River. No luck. The only road I saw way also blocked, but I'm pretty sure it was a private road owned by Lockhart Power Co, so no chance there. I don't think it went very far anyway.
After that, I crossed over the Broad River in hopes of finding the old road to the old Pinckneyville ferry. Wrong side of the river, but maybe a 1% chance of locating the ferry site and seeing something across the river. Unfortunately it was getting dark, so I had to turn back before I found a road.
Frustrating, but now I am really determined to get in there.

Thanks harryhotspur. If you google the area you can see the excavations they are doing down near the river. When I went there about ten years ago that is where I was picking up the gold signal from a distance of over four miles. There were scores of holes dug and I believe that was where Oregon Dave found $1.4 million or more in gold, silver, mexican dollars and jewelry. Only time will tell, it may be his son bought the land and is doing the excavations? Albert

Thanks Albert.
I've looked at the aerials on Google, USGS, and Mapquest maps and I can't see the area you're talking about. But, I have no expertise in reading aerial photos.
I know this is asking a lot, but could you post a copy of the area you're talking about, with a red circle or something drawn around it? I have no idea what this involves, I've just seen other people do it.
If not, maybe you could give me an idea of the distance and direction from the end of the public road. Anything would be a help.

One more thing. I can at least find out who owns the land now. It will have to be on a weekday when the Register of Deeds is open, but at least it's public record. The hard part will be me taking a day off, but I'll do it.

Not sure, go to Lost Treasure Magazine.com and see if you can get into the Archives or check with Albert. Seems like the story was ran about last April maybe.

;D BACK on the "Beale/Beall" trail, mid-JULY; CLOSER to Bedford City, to do R & I at BEDFORD Library REFERENCE Room, and City/County Museum. Got some families to "look up"; NOT much was found in JONES MEMORIAL LIBRARY... "same old, same old"; NO "secrets" THERE! It WAS good to "walk the streets of history"... being in the HOTEL that A. JACKSON, T. JEFFERSON were in, VERY small place... and NOT! the Washington Hotel, NOR the Arlington House. STILL can not find the grave sites of ROBERT & SARAH MORRISS; DID find ROBERT MORRIS.... NO Sarah, connected to him, from what I can tell. DID find several gravesites of interest, proving HISTORICAL presence of SOME ppl. MORE R & I to come... STARBUCKS! ;D

;D HIGH-TEST! Wife & I are moving small stuff into storage near Bedford City; on Rt. 460, Rt. 221, Rt 501 North, Whreat Valley... ALL routes of HISTORY. Wheat Valley is ESPECIALLY beautiful; love to find a house rental there. We DID look at a old farm house in the Thom. Jefferson National Forest, and decided against it; ceilings too low for me... steps (stairway) to second floor; MOON-SHINING up in the hills... VERY much a lawless area; rather be in MONTVALE. MAYBE, Upper Goose Creek Valley, DUNNO!

The house at Joanna Hill is usually for rent----that is where Clayton Hart bought the property, also where Joseph Duran rented searching for the Beale Treasure. If it is not available. There is a mobile home across from Sanford Bower's old place just below Jimmy Luck's place that he sold. I am quite sure if you knock on some doors there is plenty of houses in this area for rent. I wish I could live there myself but Have to WORK. Have fun, check out upper goose creek first. Albert Kydave we are always here even when we don't post. I know we had a stretch of about two weeks without a post. I guess everyone had something to occupy their time. Thanks and keep posting.

;D I, PERSONALLY... am tempted to move to UPPER GOOSE CREEK VALLEY, but wife wants to be near Lynchburg, in case her momma needs her (Pamplin City). HA! Forest area is good, due to REBEL "history" in Lynchburg... Old Coffee Road "treasures"... Poplar Forest... OLD Plantation "treasure"... OLD Virginia & Tennesee RR from L'burg to Montvale, Va., etc . ANOTHER reason for the the Forest area is a "case of" GOLDEN GLINT on the mountain, at the end of Perrowville Road, and at Blackwater Creek Trail, at the old dam in Lynchburg, Va. NEVER got around to checking 'em out; MAY try to do so, in the future... DUNNO.
