Currently reading ALL 3 volumes of "Bedford Villages, Lost and Found"; compiled by The Peaks of Otter Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, Bedford, Va. (too HOT to go "Rockhounding"... ;D ); LOTS of info on Read Creek (going into Goose Creek, below Taylor Mountain...) the Dooley families near Taylor Mountain, etc.; Beale's "breaking" of the Beale Codes, is the best I've seen by far... it "jives" with local history... SO! ORDER YOUR COPY OF HIS "BOOk"... TODAY! Beale, U gotta leave a "point of contact" on this thread or something... AND... do NOT delete it... Will share on this thread, some "tib-bits" i have fouind... ;D

Yo! Rebel here: Gonna share a little tib-bit for a while from "Bedford Villages, Lost & found"... in terms of Cornwallis' Gold from the Revolutionary War: U know that New London area of Bedford County was "Tories-land"... LOTS of 'em and the Patriots hated 'em... had a "WHIPPING POST" for 'em... LGA!!! WELL! The Brits ALSO had an area east of today's Peaks of Otter, AND! there were members of the Dooley family living in that area... SO! IF they were also TORIES (Dooley Bros.), it makes LOTS of sense to carry and bury Cornwallis' Gold in those mountains/hills of Bedford County... the area formally known as Charmont... OR! In in Vol. 3 of "B V, L & F", p. 5 : John & George Dooley bought some "Tracts" near Union on today's Rt. 753, EAST of Mt. Zion Baptist Church... where did they get the $$$$ for such? Did THEY steal and BURY Cornwallis' Corn? LGA!!!

Yo! Rebel here: ;D I was very tired when I did the "post" above... BUT! Sooo excited!!! ;D I reckin Cornwallis DID have some Corns on his toes, DUNNO... HA! Anyway... some people by the last name of DOOLEY are: Alexander W.; Aubrey; Caleb; Fannie Hundley ;D; George; Grace; Hattie; Irvin; James "Jim"; John; Matilda; Max; Oscar; Otis; Paul; Peggy; Rosalie; S.H.; Sam; Ute; W.C.; Willard C.; William Lee (WL); and then, there is a "piece" on Dooley's Store... CORNWALLIS GOLD, folks! Developing into Beale Treasure... more later... ;D

Yo! Rebel here: ;D (drinking my "high-test joe" ;D... looks like it's "fixing to rain"... ...) I'm also watching "odd" expressions (hearing or reading, about the B. T.). Beale, you gave a VERY good example of such when you mentioned the guys with $$$$ standing around as you "dug"... the "oddest" expression for me was... "The Treasure??? Look for the Lion's face, near the Peaks of Otter..." hmmmm... sounds like we need to have a look at the Brit. section of Charlmont (sp?)... there is a Read Creek up there... lots of Dooley-related descendants (so I've heard...) AND! The late Fall, Winter... early Spring is the BEST time to look for the Lion's Face (if it is a "rock" formation), supposedly... THE TREASURE IS BURIED UNDER IT... I've have seen LOTS of "old trails/roads" in "DEM DAR HILLS!" ;D

Yo! Rebel here: Beale, I think U R correct about the Dooley families being up north Goose Creek... and the "breaking" of the B.T. Code... I think as "time" went on it was "upped" and moved elsewhere... I am trying to think "outside the box" on this thing in doing research... (AND drinking LOTS of "High-Test'... ;D... ) I refuse to stay within the Beale Code(s) "box"... TOO limiting... gotta allow for other possibilities... Focusing too much on the B.T. Code(s)... the Beale Papers... etc. does NOT allow for "odd" comments "here 'n there"... I gotta go back to Vol. I now, and re-read the section on Charlmont (sp?)... later... ;D

Yo! Rebel here: ;D Beale, good job on you updating us on your books... and glad to see someone has ALL 3 to "rockhound"... ANYWAY... the latest on Cornwallis' Gold is that Charlemont area of Bedford County is along the James River (NorthEast) beyond Coleman Falls, and before you get to Big Island on Rt. 501... AND the mountain next to Charlemont is... NO BUSINESS MOUNTAIN! as in "we have NO BUSINESS, being on this MOUNTAIN... HA! Ha! HA! GEEEZE! Looking at the James River (which goes ALL THE WAY to Yorktown, Va.), we can speculate the following... After Cornwallis lost to George Washington at Yorktown... Cornwallis had the Gold moved via the James River (or it was stolen by the Dooley Bros.), routed around the Falls at Richmond, Va., going west on the James River to Waugh (near Big Island)... off-loaded from the James River into Brit. area of Charlemont... taken along the mountain road (south)... and buried under the Lion's Face/Head on NO BUSINESS MOUNTAIN! Now, I gotta wait until @ Thanksgiving to see if there is a Lion's Face/Head formation in DEM DAR HILLS...

Yo! Rebel here: ;D Sounds good, Beale... "time & funds..."? I think... just continue to gather "intell. and info."... sit on it... then ask for INVESTORS, to fund... TREASURES RECOVERY VENTURES, INC. In other words... form an incorporation like Mel did... research Virginia State Laws re. "Treasure and historic places" (or get a lawyer (probably Real Estate Law... dunno) to do it (that takes $$$$); if U get "funders", U will make the "time"... sit on the info U have, and see if Investors want a "piece of the pie"... I know U have been down that "road" once, already... learn from it, and get EVERYTHING IN WRITING...

Yo! Rebel here: ;D Good, Beale... can a creek be a "Turkey Foot"? In other words, when U come up... I wanna show U that from a "Topo-Map"... "Turkey Toe" (middle toe...) ends right on the top of a mountain... HA!

Yo! Rebel here: ;D Beale, I meant the copying service... NOT the printer/publishers; your "copy" was very well done. My wife & I left a "master copy" of her "book" with Staples in Lynchburg, Va. and we picked up our copies to sell/ put in package for our Board of Directors to read. In terms of T.H.ers looking for B. T.; haven't seen nor heard of an "invasion", yet. Have seen evidence of "increased use" of reading room in Bedford Library... MAY be just folks looking for family history or history of Bedford City/County/Smith Mountain Lake... NO books on B.T. was left out for library staff to re-shelf; the lady at Peaks of Otter (we went there today, to escape the "heat"... ), told me that her father owns NO BUSINESS MOUNTAIN, and was offered LOTS of $$$$ for it... HA! Told her to tell her father NOT to sell...

Yo! Rebel here: ;D Beale, I think U must have been close! Hope U remember the area of the "strong signal"... DO NOT "mark" it physically, in case some one else is watching U... ANOTHER thing on the metal pieces U find on the ground... be careful in moving 'em; they MAY be "MARKERS" (ie. direction-finders for the next area to look). I'll give U a experience of mine here in Moneta... I found what looked like a "spear-point", made by Saponi Indians, who lived in this area... it was poorly made compared to others I have found in the Shenandoah Valley... And then I realized it was pointing EAST, where I found the "X" along Stony Fork Creek later... It is a "beautiful" white quartz "marker"... FIRST one I have EVER found... ;D So! the metal "pieces" may be left on the ground to "throw U off the trail OR... point U elsewhere... U MUST use yer "instincts", based on yer experience, to follow what might not "be the obvious"...

Yo! Rebel here: ;D Actually, I'm just researching, talking to people, and finding some interesting "sites"... NOT sure if they R Beale Traesure related... I think there is something BIGGER here in Bedford County (several "sites"...); Peter just have another "piece" published on the Beale treasure in the current issue of "Blue Ridge Country" magazine; had a cousin who died of cancer this past weekend... funeral was yesterday... another cousin's husband has a brother who does geno-research... it turns out that T. Jefferson was a grandpappy of mine, as was grandma Pocahontas (she was yer grandma, too... if I remember our conversations... ;D ). Us old Indians gotta POW-WOW soon...

Just so you guys don't think that no one is reading. I am enjoying your stories and theories.
By the way, I grew up off of Charlemont road on Sweet Hollow rd. Have done lots of hunting and hiking on No Business Mountain as it is across a gravel road from my house.
By the way, it is called No Business Mtn, because supposedly there used to me a few moonshine distilleries located there
