Don't think it wa a pointer knife because it was in this big sink hole like place close to a big ol' log house. You could ride a horse down in there and build a fire and at eye level noone could see you or the fire.

Jesse spent a lot of time here in Bardstown Ky and nearby Samuels and was very good friends with the local Sheriff. Wish there was a tale of him hiding some loot around here that i could search for but i haven't heard of any. I searched a campsite he was supposed to have used at Samuels but only found an old fixed blade knife! We have a Beal Street here also but probably no connection and nearby is Younger's Creek!

What if you had a lock and a key which one would you send first to morriss? You know the lock could be picked or broken right? So send the key! Which might be a list of words from the DOI! So i think this is what Beale did. Some of the best minds in the world have tried to crack these codes with no results. So after 40 years i believe this is what Beale did. Benjamin Tallmadge had a dictionary code like this in the same time period. 763 words excattly the same as paper number 2 in. Beale was to send the "real" code numbers to use with the DOI key in 1832 what happened who knows? But i would bet this code could have been cracked if itsn;t for that! I have picked this thing completely apart over the years and that is my assumption! Thinking out of the box! Someone else might find a key but i don't think morriss ever got it!

I have found at least 30 or 40 locations of gold being discovered in Va. during this time period. Don't really see any reason to go out west? But supposedly it was only by accident?

I would say most any kind of story might be connected to the Beale treasure who knows for sure? Talking about Dowsing, I was going deer hunting one year and decided to draw a rough sketch of the farm i was to hunt on and put an X at every spot i thought i might see a deer. Then i proceeded to eliminate all the X's but one and hunt there. The next morning i walked directly to that spot and as soo as i got there i saw a 10 point buck about 75 yards away on the edge of the woods. I was in a picked corn field with no cover or hiding place so i quickly layed down. That deer walked directly towards me and i let him get within 20 yards or so before i fired and killed him. That all happened within 10 minutes, shortest hunt i ever went on! Too bad this method doesn't happen more treasure hunting! But an old timer told me once Dowsing usually just works out of "need" and hardly ever works out of "greed", i guess when your looking for riches that comes under "greed"

Hey Beale' Sorry to hear about your loss. I figured you have been busy or found a treasure, hope you do someday. I know the thrill would be worth more than the money "priceless"! Would be for me anyway! Haven't been out much lately, went to "Treasure Fest" only one day back in June got a messed up shoulder and haven't been swinging the detector much lately. Anyway glad your doing ok and still on the Forum later!
