It was interesting; "repeat" for it (Episode 8) is up-coming Tuesday at 9 or 10 pm; can also get it on "You-Tube", I think... Code for Gold.

Your BASIC idea of looking NOW is correct; found MANY mountain roads leading to "ghost towns" mountain communities near the Shenandoah National Park (aka Skyline Drive) here in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia; LOTS of stuff still on the ground... BUT! FED-LAND! Swift Run, Va. along Rt. 33 is my "fave" area... NICE creeks, roads, home foundations etc.

Well, Jean WAS considered "connected" by Peter Viemeister, in his book, THE BEALE TREASURE: NEW History of a MYSTERY; "Ring-leader of the illegal trade, was a clever, FRENCH-speaking man... the youngest of 8 children, named Jean Lafitte..." (p. 104); explored more in Chapt. 12, pg. 107-111; Lafitte & Jackson. "Thomas Beale (Sr.) became a leader of one of the newly organized, supplemental fighting teams...." (p. 108); THE BEALE'S RIFLES! He was "elected" CAPTAIN! MORE great info is in that chapter...

kydave, your "fixed blade knife" COULD have been a "Pointer-Knife"; did you "record" it "in-situ"? Pointing to the direction to go for next "clue" or TREASURE! AND! We DO have legends of JJ/KGC treasure in South-West Bedford County/South-East Roanoke County, Va. area, where there are MANY JAMES families & DALTON families, living in the Stewartsville, Va. "area", "in dose hills". Hardy, Va. is ANOTHER "area of interest"; unfortunately, some of THAT area is underwater... Smith Mountain Lake!

HELLO! vulture here (aka "Old Timer, Rebel KGC")... 1882, Lynchburg, VIRGINIA; Frank James was living in Lynchburg, Va. with his family under the name of JAMES WARREN, when brother Jesse was murdered (1882). YET! There was a "SECRET" meeting held at Arlington Hotel in Lynchburg, which included the Inner Circle that "patch-worked" the BEALE PAPERS, as a COVER-UP for the VIRGINIA portion of the CSA TREASURY (1882). It included MANY CSA REBELS that never surrendered, a woman or two... taking stories of real events of the past, plus stories of AE Poe. The Beale ciphers 1 & 3 were RUSES, TJ's DOI was utilized & "aimed" at "Honest Abe". The HART PAPERS by George Hart, Sr. is MORE realistic, and Peter Viemeister's CONFEDERATE COVERUP: Duty, Honor, & Deceit tells the TRUE story. ELITE TEAM of VMI CSA Officers (KGC?) created this "NEW ENTERPRISE" to rebuild Richmond, VIRGINIA, Lynchburg, Va. (state capital of VIRGINIA for 4 days in April, 1865), AND! VMI! Which was burned by DANG Yankee "Black" Dave Hunter, on his way to capture Lynchburg, VIRGINIA. Was Jesse "murdered", so HE could later meet with the INNER CIRCLE, and Beale/Beall...? PROBABLY! MORE later... SOON!

Following up on the above... Giles' son, James Beverly Ward was grandson of James Beverly Risque, who had a plantation/farm in Campbell Country, south west of Lynchburg, Va. (Hunting Hills). He had cousins (the Hutter Brothers... also grandsons of James Beverly Risque), and THEY... (JB Ward & the Hutter Brothers, PROBABLY read E.A. Poe's stuff as they were growing up... MAYBE played CIPHERS/ADVENTURE games on Grandpa's Risque plantation/farm; COULD be an "influence" on BEALE PAPERS of 1885... dunno.

Wife & I went to Lexington, Va. this past week (two nights; 3 days). Went to Vets Day "special" there; then on to VMI. Went to Marshall Foundation/Museum, spoke with folks there; found NOTHING there on Beale Treasure/Ciphers. Went to VMI Preston Library & spoke with Archivist there; she had NOTHING, also. It was VMI Founder's Day there (Vets Day), the Governor of Virginia was there, & wife & I went back to hotel room. Will send info on Elizebeth Friedman & Beale Ciphers (SHE couldn't solve BC # 1 nor 3). "Google" Elizebeth Smith Friedman's Papers at the Marshall Foundation - VMI if YOU wanna look. Will ask MF to share info with VMI Archivist; www.peterv.com/confed_treasure.htm BTW, VMI Officers (CSA)"ELITE TEAM", COULD have been Scottish Rite Freemasons/Knights of the Golden Circle (KGC)... dunno.

Was advised at Buchanan Library that all info has been moved to Fincastle, Va. THAT is another day trip or "over-niter". NO copy of BEALE PAPERS found at Marshall Museum Library at VMI; know that it was reported to be there. Know that Elizabeth Friedman tried to solve Beale Ciphers 1 & 3; she had NO solution, yet had 2-3 boxes of files on it... thought it was VMI, as NSA had an office in Lexington, Va. during WW II years. LATER!
