OK Rebel, I've checked it out and it turns out I was correct, the board was set to have me vet all new members and I've therefore approved your new registration, username "rebelgold". However, I've also changed the passwords on both your previous registration "Rebel KGC" (under which, it says you logged in yesterday!) and your new username "rebelgold" (as registered on Jan 6th).
I would recommend using your old username "Rebel KGC" because it has kept a count of your posts under that name and it makes it easier to check or search for them. It also has you graded as a senior member, which may or may not be of any relevance to you but it makes me happy lol
I'm sending you the new passwords now.
I hope this helps.
Gordon
P.S Remember to log in using the name "rebel" followed by your password... not the display name "Rebel KGC"! Perhaps that's been part of your original problem! You'll be asked for some confirmation data which I'm sure you'll know, assuming you were truthful when you first signed up lol.
If you have any other problems then please feel free to email me!
Regards,
Gordon

Albert, you're a star!! I'm so glad to hear that you're going to take time out to commit your wisdom and experience to paper. And to think, I had something to do with that!! History will surely mark me down as a hero Seriously though, I hope you find some new found fervour in your writings! It just might be that you find a new outlet for your enthusiasm. Rebel: I'm going to look into your registration problems, sounds like when the new board came online it was flagged to have me vet all new registrations. I wasn't aware of that and I certainly haven't been notified by the board of any new members. I'll look into it and get back to you. Regards, Gordon

Oh and Rebel, why don't you just bite the bullet and register as a member? You do realise that anybody can post as Rebel and you wouldn't be able to prove that it wasn't you who posted? Trust me, membership doesn't hurt and you won't be asking for junk mail or whatever!

Hi folks & HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Sorry Albert, I thought I'd already posted something similar just after New Year. Admittedly I was drunk all the way through the New Year period, ie the 31st Dec 2005 through to the 1st Jan 2006, (I even fell asleep and missed "the Bells"!) but I've been working hard ever since and I guess I must have forgotten! Anyway I hope you all had a very, very merry Hogmanay and an equally drowsy/nauseous/headachey new year! Gordon

Albert, you have a wealth of information locked away in that brain of yours and it will, unfortunately, perish along with you unless you set it all down on paper. If you are able to at least document your experiences then I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one who would be interested enough to part with a few bucks for the privilege of reading them! What I'm saying is, if you feel you are capable of putting together some document or manuscript then why not? If hunting is out of the question then surely writing about your experiences might be the next best thing. I don't know you very well, just here on the board and through email, but already I have an interest in what makes you tick. I have absolutely no doubt that anything you write regarding treasure hunting (Beale or otherwise) would make extremely interesting reading.
As to the pic I posted, I simply searched Google.com for a similar pic, saved it, modified the text in Paintshop Pro, then uploaded it to my free website courtesy of Geocities.com! I then posted the pic here using the "Insert Image" icon and typed the address. I didn't learn how to do any of that overnight, like you these were skills learned over months and years spent online doing a lot of similar stuff!
Any skill is impressive if it's one you don't have!
Your skills were learned over the course of a lifetime and shouldn't be lost if there is a way to preserve them. What do you say, do you feel like writing a treasure hunter's manual? Or perhaps even THE Treasure Hunters Manual?
Give it some thought,
Gordon

Yo! Rebel here: Agree with tjb... NOTHING has EVER been posted as pics here... (wish we could, tho...) like tjb... I would like some more info... where DID this come from? Good news Reb! I believe that when the forum has been updated to Ver 4 there will be an option to upload photos with your posts ;D The update is due sometime next week. For a list of new features see support.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=v4&action=display&n=1&thread=1099555771

Time for constructive criticism about this forum. I personaly dont' like having to dig out the 11 digit password i have to use to log on because it's so long i can't remember it. So as you have probably noticed it's much easier to just change your name a little and sign on as a guest. Something different needs to be done if Rock wants people to log in. Sorry it took me so long to reply to this, but you can actually choose your own password! Just log on and go to Profile. You'll find you can change your password there.

Hi Albert, Not sure what I can do to help but needless to say I'm more than willing to do what I can, if I can! Perhaps another mass email to the forum membership when the book is nearing publication? Anyway, just let me know what you'd like me to do and we'll take it from there.
As for the time, I believe the alteration was done 2 weeks early in the US to take advantage of the extra light in the mornings, so the forum will probably catch up on the proper date, whenever that is. I personally have no control over the time change.
Well done on locating the vault too, I'm looking forward to hearing the details when you're ready to post.
All the best, Gordon

Hi Albert, Just a thought... er... I don't suppose there's any chance of a mention of the forum somewhere in your book is there? We sure could use the publicity! I'm looking forward to reading it too. Gordon

Welcome Kydav, Thanks for becoming a member, we could sure use some new blood. Unfortunately I can't really add much to the Beale question (I have said why in earlier posts) but your participation is much appreciated TOMm: Highlighting text is tricky. You have to replace the word TEXT with your own text. Copy the passage you wish to highlight first then, as in your example, click on the G icon (glow) and highlight the word TEXT. Right click and paste. I'll fix your message so it reads the way you intended. Rockhound. Edit: The Glow feature seems to throw out the text formatting somewhat when used in the middle of a sentence, so I opted for Bold instead. I hope you don't mind. [glow=red,2,300]Rockhound[/glow]

A work of fiction based upon the search for a real treasure story? It has always been my contention that a novel (actually more of a movie in truth) based on the Beale Saga would be a fantastic idea. If I might offer my opinion on such a venture, I feel that the book/movie should begin by laying out the history behind the beale codes, flesh out the characters involved and the hardships they must have endured, describe the codes explaining how they were produced and what they represent. And finally have the main protagonist/hero (presumably some 21st century maverick, written off by the "experts" in cryptology, going it alone, against the odds, with a revolutionary method of decrypting semi-ancient codes, climaxing with some (plausable) conclusion to the whole saga!!! Hollywood demands that there be all manner of dangers (encounters with deadly creatures ie, bears/wolves/men with English accents and waxed moustaches, hazardous weather, precipitous mountain paths, awesome CGI monsters (OK I added that one myself), and all manner of interpersonal character-driven anxieties a la "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre") and an explosive conclusion. Phewww, you have your work cut out for you Pope. But I wish you well and would absolutely love to read whatever you come up with!! Oh and might I suggest an idea for your main character? See, there's this guy (a computer enthusiast with outdated programming skills) who, while sitting on the sidelines watching what others are doing, quietly resurrects a mothballed computer program he had been working on for several years... In the meantime he sets up a forum and names it, er.. something like... "Rockhounder's Treasure Hunting Messageboard"!? Of course he is a handsome chap, likeable but modest, deceptively intelligent but with a dangerous and sexy dark side. I see Tom Cruise in the lead roll (the "out of control" programmer?) in the movie ;D ----------------------------------------------------------------------- By the way, do you require the services of an amateur proofreader?
